4 and 1/2 months post-op!

We are at 4 and 1/2 months post-op and he’s doing just fine. A bit more clumsy but thats ok! We’ll take it and he doesn’t seem to mind. He knows it’s normal and so do we at this point. He still insists on climbing up steep slopes on his walks to go see what scent the foxes have left behind. Lost his footing once and rolled down the hill sideways like a discarded hotdog. He immediately got up once he reached the base of the hill and continued on like it never happened. Honestly we didn’t know wether to laugh or freak out. Ok, we laughed but we felt really bad about it. (I’m snickering as I type this.)

Snow is coming our way this weekend. It will be another new first for him. We are very curious as to how he will handle it. I think he will master it just like he has with everything else.

So how are we are all feeling at this 4 and 1/2 month post-op mark? To sum it all up in one word, thankful.

Happy 3 months!

Holy smokes! I can hardly believe its been 3 months since our boy joined the Tripaw club!

Sun bathing isn’t his favorite thing to do out back these days since the weather has gotten cooler. His fur is still growing in so I imagine he gets a bit chilled out there. Loves, loves his walks. He continues to be remarkably strong and bull headed. He wants to go where HE wants to go. He’ll swing that front leg out in front of him with his 3 legged stance and give you a stubborn look of defiance. Some days I find this hilarious and some days I’m annoyed. But everyday, I am thankful that he is still here with us.

Happy 2 month Ampuversary Buddy!

DSC_3431Today marks Buddy’s 2 month ampuversary! It’s rainy out so he is spending the day comfortably on his pillow with his blanket. I think we’ll probably head out in a bit for a walk/hop. 🙂

Here’s the things that we are thankful for 2 months later. He can go around the block almost all on own.  He’s still stubborn as heck and wants to go where he wants to go and not where we want him to go! So, we are thankful for his strength. (But sometimes we are no so thankful for that!) He still loves to run along side Steve when Steve holds the handle to his harness. He can go down a short set of stairs all by himself.  He can run/hop in the yard. He still knows how to chase a chipmunk down when he feels like it!  We are thankful that he is no longer scared of his water dish! He is a master at turning around. We are thankful for helpful neighbors and the neighborhood kids who love him and have been so supportive of Buddy. We are thankful for his vets who helped prolong his quality of life. He is happy and content. We are ever so thankful for this website and the love and support we have received as we journey through this new phase in Buddy’s life. It takes a village my friends. Life is good!DSC_3479

6 weeks

Today we mark 6 weeks since amputation. WOW! 6 weeks! When we were at the one week mark I could not wait to get to this point. It is incredible how fast time goes by. Its also pretty darn incredible the great strides Buddy has made. The fur is ever so slowly coming back. I wish that would hurry up! On colder days I will throw a t-shirt on him just to keep him warm.

He is finally content to eat from his raised food bowl. The raised water dish is another story. He doesn’t trust it. His back legs will still shake a bit when he looks at it. It’s as if he thinks it’s the evil bath tub getting ready to make him take a bath. Maybe he see’s his reflection in there? Who knows what he’s thinking. The water dish creeps him out and I am still really not sure why. We have to encourage him to go over and drink from it. He’ll do it but he’s not happy about it.

His walks are pretty strong. Some days he is happy to go longer and others he is happy to cut it short. He is still stubborn as heck in having to turn around! On his longer walks he likes to trot along at a quick pace then he’ll  stop to sniff around a bit. He’ll tire after awhile and will look up at Steve as if  to say, “A little help here?” So Steve will lift him slightly with his harness and off they go! I don’t think he really needs the help. I just think he really loves when Steve runs with him like that. His face is priceless. He’ll give Steve a sign to let him know he’s done with the run then they will stop and he will always look back to make sure I’m coming.

Life is pretty awesome. 6 weeks strong.

Sometimes it takes forever for my humans to get ready for a walk so I sit on the step.

Today we celebrate Buddy’s 5 week ampu-versary! YAY Buddy! His endurance continues to improve as does his stubbornness to quite when he is tired! Oh my goodness. We think, he thinks he’s training for a marathon.

Its getting a bit nippy out so we thought a t-shirt might warm him up a bit. Happy Monday everyone!
